In 2026 Daniel Trenner will celebrate his 70th birthday and his 50th anniversary as a dancer.
After a long career in Modern Contemporary Dance, including Contact improv, Jazz, Tap, Latin Dance, and Body Mind Centering, he became a force in the modern revival of Tango dance and music, making traditional tango music and social dance accessible to non-Argentines. He also ran a successful Salsa, Swing, and Tango Program in Havana Cuba from 1999-2002.
He has been a senior faculty at Dance New England since 1981, and created the Teen Salsa Program, which has become the core dance program for the Next Generation youth. He was a Lecturer in Dance at The Five Colleges for 14 years, ending with the pandemic.
Underlying his dedication to dancing as a social event, is his history in building conscious communities and co-living in the US. He has an undergraduate degree in Appropriate Technology, and Masters in Ensemble Dance. He was one of the core facilitators of the group that eventually created Earthdance, and lives in a co-living household here in Florence that he created first as alternative elder care, and now as a home for his Archive and dance practice.
