A generous community member recently reached out with an exciting offer: donating their excess solar credits to support our work. This sparked an idea.
Right now, Bombyx spends over $13,000 each year on electricity and that bill will only increase as we expand our offerings and energy costs continue to rise. Imagine if we could redirect those funds to support programming. We could plan more events, and directly support multidisciplinary artists locally, regionally, and globally.
By donating your extra solar credits, you help us fuel artist residencies (Omar Sosa, Rochelle Rice, Ensemble Télémaque, Sandglass Theatre), performances (Roomful of Teeth, Sona Jobarthe, Christian McBride) and local artist/community-led projects (The Queer Story Slam, NEF Spelling Bee, Indë’s Album Release Party, Welcome Table Chorus) turning "overhead" into "opportunity."
We’ve made the process simple. Here's how you can help:
1 - Request a Schedule Z Form: Contact us at hello@bombyx.live to let us know you’d like to participate.
2 - Receive Your Tax Acknowledgment: To receive a tax receipt, simply share a copy of your monthly electric bill showing the credit amount transferred. This allows us to confirm the gift and provide you with a formal acknowledgment for your records.
The opportunity is open to National Grid customers only.
Remember the Big Dig? It lasted forever, ran way over budget, and made getting in and out of Boston feel like a visit to an escape room? Our "little dig" will be much shorter, far less costly, and enable us to do exciting things in the future. We are replacing our "vintage" water and sewer connections with new, modern infrastructure. We'll also be upgrading and burying our overhead power lines.
We are gradually renovating a historic church built at the start of the Civil War. Each step takes time and careful planning. There are always surprises. These upgrades, which will last for generations to come, open up new possibilities for the building’s use - dancing in the Sanctuary, flexible seating for new types of performances, and of course restrooms that make everyone in our community feel welcome and included.
Modern ADA compliant, centrally located, single stall restrooms have been on our renovation list since we opened. With matching funds from the Mass Cultural Council, we look forward embarking on this essential building upgrade in 2026. New bathrooms will provide more capacity, improved privacy, accessibility, and an overall better experience for patrons. Don't think plumbing can be sexy? Just wait! We're approaching this project as a design challenge.

MAKE A QUALIFIED CHARITABLE DISTRIBUTION (QCD)
If you are 70 ½ or older, a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) can satisfy the Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA while reducing your taxable income. Contact cassandra@bombyx.live to learn more about QCDs and other ways you can make a gift and save on taxes. Note that although we know a lot about fundraising, we are not tax experts. DONATE SECURITIES
We also accept tax deductible stock donations through our partner StockDonator. By donating stock that has appreciated for more than a year, you are actually giving us up to 20 percent more than if you sold the stock and then made a cash donation at no extra cost to you.
