Besides being the founding members of indie-folk-rock band The Nields, who have performed all over North America at festivals from Telluride Bluegrass to Newport Folk to Lilith Fair, toured with Cake and Dar Williams, and recorded twenty-one albums on major and indie labels, AND founded HooteNanny, a parent/toddler music program in Northampton, here's what they have done alone:
Nerissa Nields has been leading singing groups and harmony groups + guitar since high school. While in college, she founded and directed Tangled Up in Blue, a four-part folk "a cappella with guitars" group which remains popular to this day at Yale University. After her kids graduated from HooteNanny, she founded and directed Local Chorus, Focus Chorus and Vocal Ensemble, youth choruses age 5-15.
Katryna Nields has been studying voice for over 35 years. She sang with the Trinity Pipes and the Trinity College Concert Choir in college. As well as running HooteNanny from 2005-2020, she has also directed choral music for middle- and high-school students at the Academy at Charlemont and the Bement School.
