Stuart Paton is a performer, teacher, and maker of taiko. He began his ongoing studies with Seiichi Tanaka of San Francisco Taiko Dojo, whose teaching was most potent and impactful, in 1984. Stuart moved to Vermont and co-founded Burlington Taiko in 1986. On his journey of learning to be an ensemble leader and Sensei, Stuart has taught school groups and conference sessions of all age groups and sizes, composed numerous original pieces, and constructed over 200 taikos. He is an accomplished soloist on the Odaiko (large taiko), and constructed a 54” collapsible Ojime Taiko commissioned for BurningMan 2016.
