Guitarist Freddie Bryant teams up with the brilliant vocalist, pianist, composer and band leader Karrin Allyson for a summer workshop.

If you're a guitarist or a vocalist who wants to work on your instrument and build your repertoire in the American Songbook and jazz and Brazilian standards or refine your original compositions, this workshop is for you!

It will also build your sense of rhythm by connecting you to the intricacies of swing in the jazz tradition as well as with the Brazilian groove, learning the basic foundations of samba, bossa nova, partido alto and baião. This will give new inspiration and depth to your arrangements and performances.

You can focus on solo playing or duos and trios (and more) with many combinations: vocals with piano and guitar, vocals with guitar and percussion, two guitars and percussion, three guitars or experiment with the beautiful sonorities of piano and guitar a la Nat King Cole and Oscar Peterson or the intimate piano/guitar duos innovated by Jim Hall and Bill Evans.

Daily schedule 7:30am-5pm includes:

• Optional morning tai chi, qigong and body work (yoga, breathing, meditation) led by Freddie Bryant
• Rotations of musical sessions with Karrin and Miro Sprague and Freddie with Nanny Assis
• Individual and group work on singing and guitar performance, technique, repertoire, improvising, harmony and rhythm/styles, Portuguese pronunciation and arrangements.
• Guitarists will work on accompanying as a foundation of the rhythm section as well as solo and ensemble work.
