Take the opportunity to empty your closet, basement, and attic of unwanted belongings you’ve been holding on to and drop it off at Bombyx, where we’ll have bins ready to gather your stuff. Then spend some time getting to know your neighbors. The fun gets started at 10am and we'll wrap up by 1pm.
We're delighted to partner with several local organizations and individuals to offer trash-related activities (and Wake the Dead Donuts!).
Resilient Community Arts will lead a make your own trash puppets and wearable accessories activity for all ages.
The Creation Station will be performing on the junk jam, a percussive sculpture made up of pots, pans, utensils and the like (visitor participation encouraged!)
Lee Shuer will recreate Lucy's psychiatric help stand from Peanuts with peer support conversations for over-collectors (free).
At 10:30 AM, Pastor Marisa Egerstrom will lead a ritual for letting things go.
At 11 AM, local artist and earth citizen Julie Kumble will demonstrate how to filter acrylic paint water and turn it into a solid through flocculation, the simple and environmentally friendly alternative to dumping acrylic paint water down the drain.
David Ruggles Center for History and Education will present silkworm/cocoon lifecycle demonstrations
Meanwhile, folks from Swanson's, Northampton RePair & ReUse, and Pedal People will be accepting the following items:
Yarn, needles, thread, notions, sewing machines and other equipment, material, and curtains
Housewares in good working order including appliances, light fixtures, tools, pet supplies, garden equipment
Entertainment items such as toys, games, puzzles, sports equipment, books, arts and craft supplies
Broken electronics, scrap metal, recyclable batteries, fluorescent bulbs
And for the junk jam bring your pipes, pants, pots, bottles, jugs, and kitchen utensils to add to the mix!
PLEASE DO NOT BRING:
Mattresses, furniture, styrofoam, motor oil, paint solvents, or similar chemicals, or anything you can’t carry or move with a cart yourself
