KAMAUU

KAMAUU is an American rapper and singer who blends elements of RnB, rap, doo-wop and reggae to create his own flowing, relaxed style. The New York based rapper signed to Atlantic Records in 2015 and since then has released a series of innovative mixtapes including the jazz-infused collection TheKAMAUU-CASSETTE: MíXD GRēēNS in 2019.

Born Kamau Agyeman in Washington, D.C ., KAMAUU was introduced to music at a young age by his parents. In 2009 he moved to Brooklyn to attend art school, where he became involved with the BIGCITYBIGCITY music collective and began to hone his musical skills. KAMAUU dropped his first solo recordings in 2014, a mixtape TheKAMAU-CASSETTE which led to the rapper securing a recording contract with Atlantic Records.

Over the next few years KAMAUU released a series of singles that helped him gain increasing exposure, notably his inventive take on the OutKast classic track ‘Hey Ya’. In 2016 he released his The Gorgeous Fortune, his first proper studio EP, and his track ‘The Icarus’ featured on the soundtrack for the movie The Birth of a Nation.

2017 saw the pioneering artist drop the next mixtape in his KAMAU-CASSETTE series, TheKAMAU-CASSETTE: ŭRTH GōLD. The highly anticipated TheKAMAUU-CASSETTE: MíXD GRēēNS installment exploded onto the music scene two years later, with KAMAUU weaving together soul, doo-wop, reggae, rap and soul, the reference to greens representing his growth as an artist.
