Join Mountain River Taiko & Friends in a celebration of Japanese culture and performance arts! Bunka no Hi, or Culture Day, is a Japanese holiday celebrated on November 3rd that is dedicated to culture, the arts, and academic endeavors.
We are proud to share the Bombyx stage with Amherst Japanese Language School students (bon odori dance), Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko Massachusetts (Okinawan eisa), Anne Prescott (koto), Mary Ellen Miller (shakuhachi), Mayu Yamamoto (taiko & fue), Kumiko Yamamoto (taiko; Odaiko New England), and Joy Regen (taiko; Shindaiko).
And, we are honored to present Eien Hunter-Ishikawa (Portland Shishimai Kai) and Junko Kumamoto (Taiko Arts MIdwest) as special guests for a performance of the Edo Kotobuki Jishi, the traditional celebratory lion dance of Tokyo. Come celebrate Bunka no Hi with us!
The show will be followed by a family friendly Shishimai workshop with Eien from 5 pm to 6 pm
This event is FREE and open to everyone; donations appreciated.
