Music is more global than ever, and continuously changing. New technologies, new ideas, and new migrations are continuous catalysts, and collider!FEST has its finger on the pulse of what’s next. The programming celebrates global music culture’s rising stars and offers a space for curious and adventurous listeners (and dancers) to discover new rhythms and sounds.
For its first full-building BOMBYX takeover this April, the event will include an international roster of groundbreaking artists as well as DJ afterparties, workshops, a food pop-up by acclaimed Oaxacan chef Neftalí Durán, local beer & cider by BLDG8 and Artifact Cider Project, and a Saturday afternoon record fair.
The second night of collider!FEST features:
Lido Pimienta — The Grammy-nominated Colombian/Toronto-an is the nuLatAm high priestess of Afro-Indigenous electro meets cumbia. Future folk that is both traditional and transgressive, earthy and electrifying. Here is an unexpected guest from Canada: Afro-Colombian, queer, of indigenous Wayuu heritage, a single mother—and a transcendent new voice in the world. (9:30PM)
(“A full-throated declaration of mastery” -Pitchfork)
Combo Chimbita — Afro-Colombian tropical futurists from NYC playing mystical psych-cumbia. The band is deeply informed by electronica and headed by the otherworldly vocal powerhouse Carolina Oliveras. With the release of their new album IRÉ, the group charts a fiery and shamanistic new path in Afro-Caribbean songways. (8:00PM)
(“Combo Chimbita is making some of the most incredibly inspired music in the world right now” -UPROXX)
Saturday night’s DJ after-party extends the dancing until late with DJ Bongohead from Peace & Rhythm, who will be spinning an all-vinyl Afro-Latinx set inspired by the night’s live programming.
Cook, advocate, educator and organizer Neftalí Durán will be in residence both days of the festival with a Oaxacan food pop-up inspired by his indigenous roots and his country’s diverse cuisine.
Hyperlocal Florence brewers Jake Mazar of Artifact Cider Project and O’Brian Tomalin of BLDG8 Beer will be serving on both nights of the festival.
