After her breathtaking performance at the Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival last summer, we are excited to offer you another chance to experience Martha Redbone, this time at Bombyx. With songs and storytelling that share her experience as a Native & African-American woman and mother in the new millennium, Redbone gives voice to issues of social justice, bridging traditions from past to present, connecting cultures, and celebrating the human spirit. Redbone is a vocalist, songwriter, composer, and educator whose unique gumbo of folk, blues and gospel draws from her childhood in Harlan County, Kentucky and the eclectic grit of her life in a pre-gentrified Brooklyn. Inheriting the powerful vocal range of her gospel-singing African American father and the resilient spirit of her mother's Cherokee/Shawnee/Choctaw culture, Redbone broadens the boundaries of American Roots music.
