Celebrate the season with the Bombyx Brass Collective, under the direction of Juli Sansoucy and John Power, and 35 outstanding brass musicians and percussionists in an evening of brilliant brass music, operatic drama, traditional favorites, and festive holiday sounds!
The concert's featured work is Giacomo Puccini's Music from Tosca, arranged by Geoffrey Boyd. Experience the sweeping melodies and dramatic intensity of one of opera's most beloved composers, brought to life through the rich, powerful sound of a large brass ensemble.
The program spans a remarkable variety of musical styles. Josef Suk's stirring Fanfare from "Towards a New Life" and Percy Grainger's spirited Duke of Marlborough showcase the brilliance and versatility of the ensemble, while Fisher Tull's inventive Variations on an Advent Hymn and Simon Wills's Prelude and Fugue explore its expressive and musical depth.
The holiday spirit shines through James Beckel's Christmas Fanfare, Ryan Meeboer's lively Hanukkah Swing, and seasonal favorites including Leroy Anderson's beloved A Christmas Festival, and Irving Berlin's White Christmas, arranged by Amherst resident and renowned composer, arranger, trombonist, and teacher Dave Sporny.
From the grandeur of opera to the excitement of traditional brass repertoire and the joyful sounds of the holidays, Music for a Festive Season promises an uplifting musical celebration for audiences of all ages.
