The Bombyx Brass Collective is a resident ensemble of the Bombyx Center for Arts & Equity. Originally inspired by the passion and dedication of local amateur and professional musicians, BBC is devoted to presenting quality music to diverse audiences. The 35-piece ensemble was founded in January 2022 and plays a mix of musical genres from classical to jazz to pop. BBC members include active and retired music teachers, working professional musicians, and talented amateur musicians. In addition to their work with the BBC, members perform frequently throughout the Pioneer Valley and beyond in a wide variety of professional and amateur ensembles. In addition to performing three to four times per year at the Bombyx Center, the group also performs at other venues, festivals, and even at an occasional parade throughout the Pioneer Valley.
The group is also proud to have established a special program where they visit public schools throughout the region to share their talents and enthusiasm for music with students of all ages. The one-day program involves working with and providing guidance to students during the school day, as well as giving public performances in those communities in the evening. Beginning in 2023, the BBC has visited music students in Holyoke, Monson, Northampton, South Hadley, Sturbridge, Westfield, Wilbraham.
